The death toll from the wildfires on Maui Island, U.S.'s Hawaii, rose to 80 on August 11, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in Hawaii's history.

More than 1,700 buildings were destroyed by the fires, with houses and cars being burned to ashes in the city of Lahaina.

Maui County's hazard mitigation plan, last updated in 2020, identified Lahaina and other West Maui communities as having frequent wildfires and a large number of buildings at risk of wildfire damage.
