El Niño conditions have developed in the tropical Pacific for the first time in seven years, the World Meteorological Organization declared on July 4, leading to a possible surge in global temperatures. Dr Samantha Burgess, deputy director of Copernicus Climate Climate Change Service, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, said in an interview that the El Nino that emerged in 2023 will further increase global temperatures in the following years.
