China supports Cambodia in taking a development path that suits its national conditions and realities, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, arrived in the Southeast Asian nation on Saturday for a two-day visit, weeks after the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) won a landslide victory in general election.

During Sunday's meeting with Wang, Hun Sen said Cambodia is unwavering in consolidating and deepening solidarity and friendship between Cambodia and China.

The new Cambodian government will continue to strengthen strategic mutual trust with China and carry forward the traditional friendship, he said.

Cambodia is looking forward to working with China to implement the consensus reached under the bilateral "diamond hexagon" cooperation framework, and advance the building of the "Industrial Development Corridor" and the "Fish and Rice Corridor" to speed up the improvement of Cambodia's independent development capabilities, he added.

Wang said China will stand with Cambodia, as it has always done, and support Cambodia in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, support it in safeguarding its national interests and national dignity, and support it in playing a greater role on the international and regional stages.

The iron-clad friendship between China and Cambodia has grown stronger over time, and the bilateral relationship has bright prospects, he said.

Wang added, China is ready to work with the new Cambodian government to build a high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni also met the Chinese foreign minister on Sunday.

Cambodia was the last leg of Wang's Southeast Asia tour which had taken him to Singapore and Malaysia.
