Raptors play a crucial role in maintaining a healthy environment and ecological balance by controlling other animals. The Beijing Raptor Rescue Center, co-established by International Fund for Animal Welfare and Beijing Normal University and authorized by the Beijing authorities, serves as a dedicated rehabilitation facility for birds of prey. Since its establishment in 2001, the center had successfully rescued 5,825 raptors as of June 2023. To help the injured raptors combat heat waves, the center employs various measures. Sub-adult common kestrels and eagle owls utilize outdoor sprinkler systems and water basins to cool down and clean their feathers. Moreover, the rehabilitation specialists provide ample food, including bee pupae in pine cones, to improve the raptors' strength and immunity. These efforts ensure the raptors' better adaptation to the intense heat.
