China successfully launched a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket on Monday, sending five satellites into space for smart transportation security system.
The A to E satellites of the Head-3 micro-satellite constellation were launched at 1:32 p.m. (Beijing Time) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Monday, and they entered the planned orbit successfully.
Developed by Beijing HEAD Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd., the five satellites will serve for the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) satellite system. They will be used mainly for integrated transportation security system of "land, sea, air and space."
The VDES satellite system is the basic guarantee for maritime intelligent shipping communications, ocean situation awareness, and intelligent ocean exploration.
The smart system can provide global coverage of Satellite Internet of Things (IOTs) communication services and aircraft supervision services in the field of navigation, as an important component of the "Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS)" developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of the United Nations.
Monday's launch was the 27th mission undertaken with Kuaizhou-1A series rockets.
