The Work Safety Committee of China's State Council on Monday decided to step up supervision on the investigation of a major safety incident in which 11 people were killed after the roof of a gym in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province collapsed.

The committee issued a notice urging Heilongjiang authorities to swiftly identify the causes for the incident and put forward proposals on how to handle the matter in strict accordance with relevant protocols.

The draft report of the investigation must be submitted to the committee for review and approval before the case is concluded, the document said.
