The 82 dikes on major rivers slightly damaged by the recent floods in southwestern Beijing's suburban district of Fangshan had been temporarily restored after emergency repair on August 13. The dikes were damaged by the torrential rain-induced floods hitting parts of the capital city and neighboring Hebei Province and Tianjin City from July 28 to August 2. According to the water bureau, some 1,750 sets of construction machinery, 3,600 professional workers as well as 10,000 armed police officers and men have been deployed to fix the dikes around the clock, and it took nearly nine days before the temporary restoration works were completed.
