An upgrading project on China's west-east gas transmission pipeline went into operation, increasing the annual transmission capacity of coalbed methane (CBM) in Shanxi Province by 1 billion cubic meters, the PipeChina announced on August 14. The upgrading of the Qinshui compressor station is a key supporting project for the development of China's largest CBM field. The pipeline, built under the new project, has a diameter of 406 mm and a design pressure of 6.3 MPa. The CBM output also reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about 11.7 million tonnes and the emission of harmful substances such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and dust by about 500,000 tonnes.
