A total of about 3.19 million square kilometers of ecological protection red lines have been drawn in China, according to the blue book released by the Ministry of Natural Resources on Tuesday.

The red lines cover all 35 priority areas for biodiversity conservation in the country and more than 90 percent of typical ecosystem types, including around 3.04 million square kilometers of land area, or over 30 percent of the country's total land area, and around 150,000 square kilometers of sea area.

Natural protected areas, areas with extremely important ecological functions and extremely vulnerable ecology outside the protected areas, and areas with potentially important ecological value are also within the red lines.
