Today marks the National Ecology Day, aimed at enhancing public awareness and actions to protect the ecological environment.

On April 22, 2021, Chinese President Xi Jinping committed at the Leaders Summit on Climate that China will strive to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060.

To fulfill this commitment, China built six mega hydropower stations on the Yangtze River: Wudongde, Baihetan, Xiluodu, Xiangjiaba, Three Gorges Dam, and Gezhouba. Together, they form the world's largest clean energy corridor, expected to generate 300 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually. This amount can meet the annual electricity demand of 360 million people, equivalent to a quarter of China's population.

Wang Zhilin, the former director of the construction department of Baihetan, worked on three of the six mega hydropower stations, making outstanding contributions to China's green development and ecological conservation. Check out the video for more.
