Four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook has agreed to a one-year, $8.6 million contract with the New York Jets, according to ESPN.

Cook had been playing for the Minnesota Vikings, which drafted him with the 41st pick in 2017, in the previous six seasons of his NFL career. He became their full-time starting running back from 2019, tallying over 1,100 rushing yards in every of the four seasons since then. He is the only active running back who can do that.

Cook had signed a five-year, $63 million extension with the Vikings in 2020, but the team released him in June, making him a free agent. His arrival in the Jets should be helpful in easing the offensive burden of the 39-year-old quarterback (QB) Aaron Rodgers. Back when Rodgers was still with the Green Bay Packers, they were the biggest rival of the Vikings and Cook. Now the two will join hands in the Jets.

Another star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, has joined the New England Patriots, the player announced it on social media on Monday. ESPN reported that his salary can be up to $6 million.

Elliott was the fourth-overall selection in 2016 by the Dallas Cowboys. Having played 103 games (102 as a starter) in seven seasons for the team, he rushed 8,262 yards with 1,881 carries for 68 touchdowns. He was a two-time NFL rushing yards leader, a three-time Pro Bowler, and voted into the First-team and Second-team All-Pro once each.

Eliott inked a six-year, $90 million deal with the Cowboys in 2019, but the team restructured his contract in 2021 and then released him in March, both to release cap space.

The Patriots, which were in bottom 10 in total yards, yards per game, total rushing yards and rushing yards per game in the NFL last season, are in desperate need for a running back like Elliot. He will have the chance to get revenge on the Cowboys on October 1 as the Patriots visit AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
