Scholar says BRICS growing as an alternative voice for Global South

A scholar from South Africa says the growing BRICS bloc plays a critical role in strengthening the voice of developing countries in the Global South.

Dr David Monyae, director of the Centre for Africa-China Studies at the University of Johannesburg, made the remarks ahead of the annual BRICS summit, which will take place from August 22 to 24 in South Africa.

In an interview with CGTN Radio, Monyae said the expansion of BRICS, alternative financing and the development of the Global South are some of the key issues to be discussed during the summit.
