CGTN

Located in the downtown area of Hotan City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, there is an old town named Tuancheng, which means "city of solidarity." The name comes from the scattered streets and lanes lying at its center, symbolizing how different ethnic groups live there like one big family.

Tuancheng houses a splendid historical block, which is famous for its distinctive Uygur-style architecture and cultural characteristics. This block is also known as the "Lane of Doves." It used to be a run-down residential community where people once traded doves for a living.

The local authorities have taken measures to protect these old residences in the traditional Uygur architectural style while turning the old town into a fashionable tourist spot. After extensive renovation work, the old town has been revamped as a modern tourist destination featuring many inns and shops selling local specialties. The project was not only aimed at attracting tourists to learn about the history and culture of the area, but also to boost the incomes of the local residents and the tourism industry.

Many large-scale cultural activities are available in the Tuancheng historical block, attracting tens of thousands of people to visit and soak up the passionate local atmosphere. In addition, the block is also a popular shooting location for movies and folk dramas due to its stunning scenery and distinctive cultural setting.

There are shops selling colorful carpets, silk and local handicrafts featuring intricate patterns and high quality materials. There are also many grocery and food stores offering local specialties and snacks. Music-themed restaurants, cafes, bars, bookstores, theaters and many other leisure spots can be found there, alongside a range of supporting tourism facilities, all providing a diverse range of entertainment for tourists.
