The warning system that should have been sounded for the wildfires approaching Maui Island in Hawaii on August 8 sat silent instead, leading to the American deadliest blazes in more than a century, said a Maui media expert.
Peter Trunk, a seasoned media professional from Maui, slammed the authorities for the lack of early response that could have avoided many deaths from the disaster.
