Originally from the Caribbean region, the star apple is currently being cultivated in south China's Hainan. This tropical fruit tastes sweet and has a pulpy, jelly-like texture. When it is cut open, the leaves, foliage and fruit all release a milky white liquid, which is why it's called "milk fruit" in Chinese.
