China and Europe should mitigate and eliminate risks through cooperation and integration of interests, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with the visiting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, in Beijing.

China always regards Europe as a comprehensive strategic partner and supports Europe in upholding its strategic independence and playing a greater role in the world, Wang said, urging both sides to view the problems arising from their exchanges and cooperation from the right perspective. "Failure to cooperate is the biggest security threat, and failure to develop is the biggest risk," he added.

Noting that China has accelerated the establishment of a new development pattern and promoted high-quality development, Wang said that it will bring new opportunities for countries, including Denmark.

Rasmussen said Danish companies attach great importance to the Chinese market and look forward to investing and doing business in China, adding they expect the 24 measures aimed at attracting foreign capital issued by China can promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Denmark supports multilateralism and economic globalization as well as EU-China cooperation, which is conducive to each other's development, he said.

Wang also reiterated China's stance on the Taiwan question during the meeting, stressing that the most effective and direct way to maintain stability across the Taiwan Straits is to resolutely oppose and stop "Taiwan independence." Rasmussen reiterated that Denmark adheres to the one-China policy.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the issue of Ukraine. Wang said that promoting peace talks is China's consistent position, and China hopes that efforts made by all parties can promote the establishment of a balanced, effective and sustainable security architecture and achieve lasting peace and stability in Europe.
