A drone was shot down by Russian forces in central Moscow, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Friday as Russia's Defense Ministry declared it another attempted drone attack from Ukraine.

"Tonight, during an attempt to get to Moscow, the air defense forces destroyed a drone. The wreckage of the UAV fell in the area of the Expo Center, and did not cause significant damage to the building. There are no victims, according to preliminary reports," Sobyanin said on Telegram.

The Expo Center is a large space used for massive exhibitions, less than 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) away from the Kremlin.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the drone was launched by Ukraine "against objects located in Moscow and the Moscow region" and called it another "terrorist attack."

"The UAV, after being targeted by air defense weapons, changed its flight path and fell on a non-residential building in the Krasnopresnenskaya Embankment area of Moscow," the ministry said, adding there are no casualties or fires.

There was no immediate comment from Kyiv.

Russia has accused Ukraine of launching several drone attacks at Moscow and the region in the past few months.

Last week, Russia said its air defense system has downed a drone that attempted to fly over Moscow. The vehicle crashed in a forest area in the west of the Russian capital without casualties and damage on the ground.

In early May, two drones attacked Russian President Vladimir Putin's Kremlin residence with Russia calling it Ukraine's attempt to assassinate Putin.
