The sweet-sour taste of Longgong Fruit that leaves a tangy feeling in the mouth could soon be coming to a store near you from Qionghai City in the tropical island province of Hainan.
Also known as langsat, Longgong trees have been undergoing extensive research and testing for the past 10 years at the World Tropical Fruit Agricultural Base in Dalu Town, and have finally produced fruit this year.
The exotic fruit that's native to Malaysia and Thailand was brought to Hainan in the hope it could adapt to the tropical climatic conditions there, starting a 10-year journey to establish the right agricultural conditions for trees to produce fruit.
