World number one Iga Swiatek of Poland denied China's Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 on Thursday to set up her Cincinnati Open round of eight clash with Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic.

Zheng took an early lead 3-0 in windy conditions before breaking for a third time to grab the first set.

Swiatek came back strong with an outfit change, which she said later was an attempt to refresh herself after falling behind, breaking the Chinese number one three to love three times for a 5-0 lead and forcing a decider which she closed out on her serve when Zheng sent a forehand long.

In other early actions, Vondrousova converted four of five break points to beat local Sloane Stephens 7-5, 6-3.

World number four Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan retired from her match with Jasmine Paolini when she was leading 6-4, 2-5, sending the Italian qualifier into the next round.

Greek eighth seed Maria Sakkari advanced over Czech Karolina Muchova 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
