At least five people died after the Russian shelling of Chernihiv city center, said Ukraine's Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko.
And 37 people, including 11 children, were injured and were provided with medical care, he wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
The victims came as a result of an alleged Russian attack on the Drama Theater in Chernihiv.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said a square and a university were also hit in Chernihiv.
There was no immediate comment from Russia on the attack on Saturday.
