Around 35,000 people were under orders to evacuate their homes in western Canada's British Columbia on August 19, as a raging wildfire bore down on the city of Kelowna. The devastating fires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories are just the latest in a summer of dramatic wildfires across the country that have left millions of hectares scorched.

The entire province of British Columbia is under a state of emergency.
