"Thousands of residents are displaced due to series of wildfires – and more than 1,000 are estimated to still be missing as crews continue to comb the burned ruins as of Saturday," according to the Maui Police Department in the U.S. state of Hawaii.
In early August, a series of wildfires broke out in Hawaii, predominantly on the island of Maui. The wind-driven fires prompted evacuations, caused widespread damage, and killed at least 100 people in the town of Lāhainā. The proliferation of the wildfires was attributed to dry, gusty conditions created by a strong high-pressure area north of Hawaii and Hurricane Dora to the south. CGTN brings updates of the situation.
