China sent a new Earth observation satellite into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on Monday.

The satellite, Gaofen-12 04, atop a Long March-4C carrier rocket, was launched at 1:45 a.m. Beijing Time and has entered the preset orbit.

It will be mainly used in fields including land survey, urban planning, road network design, crop yield estimation, and disaster prevention and reduction.

The Long March-4C rocket is a liquid-propellant launch vehicle consisting of three stages. It is able to launch various types of satellites with different orbital requirements, and can carry 3 tonnes of loads to a sun-synchronous orbit at a height of 700 kilometers.

Monday's launch marks the 484th flight of the Long March carrier rocket series.
