The New York Yankees saw their losing streak extended to eight games after losing to the Boston Red Sox 6-5 at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Sunday.
The game was at 5-5 in the eighth inning. Anthony Volpe hit a single to enable Isiah Kiner-Falefa to score a run for the Yankees as plate umpire Junior Valentine ruled that Kiner-Falefa's left foot got in before Connor Wong's tag. However, Valentine then went to check the video review before reversing the call.
"I got the go sign, went in there," Kiner-Falefa said after the game. "I didn't feel like I had a lane. I think the rule is if you're catcher and you've over the foul line it's considered blocking the bag right there. The ball did beat me but I didn't feel like they had enough to overturn it."

Justin Turner delivered the Red Sox the victory with a go-ahead double in the ninth inning. It was his first hit this season for the Red Sox to lead in the ninth inning or later and the 16th such play in his career.
"That head a real playoff feel, especially in those last three innings the back and forth and the fans were into it," Turner said. "It was good to get that win."
The Red Sox won all three of their games in this trip to Yankee Stadium, sweeping a series for the second time in three seasons. It was also their eighth win out of 11 games.

By contrast, the Yankees (60-64) are six games behind the Red Sox (66-58) and remain at the bottom of the American League (AL) East. They have been 24-39 since June 4, when the team's slugger Aaron Judge tore a ligament in his right big toe.
The last time the Yankees performed so poorly was in August 1995. They were 53-58 back then, but won 26 of the following 33 games to secure a wild-card spot. Back to August 2023, the Yankees are nine games from the Seattle Mariners for the final AL wild-card berth.
The last time the Yankees finished the regular season with a negative record – losing over half of the games – was in 1992.
"We got to be unbelievable the rest of the way," the team's manager Aaron Boone said. "We're really scuffling."
