Seafood imports from Japan restricted in Hong Kong
00:58

The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has announced the prohibition of the import of seafood products from 10 cities or prefectures in Japan starting Thursday. Affected by the measure are Tokyo, Fukushima, Chiba, Tochigi, Ibaraki, Gunma, Miyagi, Niigata, Nagano and Saitama. This is a response to Japan's plan to discharge contaminated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Hong Kong's Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Tse Chin-wan, made the announcement Wednesday, saying it's a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety will enhance its testing of imported Japanese food.
