The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant said on Thursday it has begun releasing its first batch of treated radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean. According to Tokyo Electric Power Company, the plant's operator, the water discharge commenced at around 13:00 local time (0400 GMT), despite concerns and opposition persisting among local fishermen and neighboring and Pacific island countries.
