A protest was held outside the office of Tokyo Electric Power Company, the operator of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, over the scheduled release of nuclear-contaminated water from the damaged nuclear plant. Protesters chanted "No dumping radioactive water into the ocean," "Listen to the voices of nuclear accident victims," and "Do not pollute the ocean." They expressed strong discontent over the government's disregard for promises made to the fishing industry.
Japan commenced the discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea on August 24.
