Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, on Friday said Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority's so-called resumption of cross-Straits tourism plan is an empty promise.
Taiwan's mainland affairs council announced on Thursday it will loosen restrictions on mainland's business and group travelers in a step towards resuming tourism. However, Zhu pointed out there is no clear date for the implementation of this "plan."
While it is called a "resumption", it actually refuses to lift the travel ban, and it is called a "loosening", but it actually imposes even harsher restrictions on cross-Straits exchanges, Zhu added.
The spokesperson stressed that the "plan" showed the unprecedented restriction and control on group tours for mainland residents traveling to Taiwan, the unprecedented control on Taiwan's tourism industry and the unprecedented restriction on Taiwan enterprises for inviting mainland enterprises to engage in exhibitions and business exchanges in Taiwan.
Peace, development, exchange and cooperation are the common aspirations and heartfelt wishes of the general public in Taiwan, Zhu noted, adding the DPP authorities are attempting to conceal the true nature of their blocking of exchanges and contacts between all sectors in Taiwan and the mainland by means of the so-called plan.
"I believe that our compatriots in Taiwan can see this very clearly and will not be hoodwinked," said Zhu.
