In an interview with CGTN, NDB vice president and CFO Leslie Maasdorp said the expansion of BRICS is a "significant step."
Six new members were added - Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Maasdorp said the extension of BRICS is part of "adapting of global institutions to the modern realities."
However, Maasdorp was quick to point out the bloc is not an "anti-Western alliance" and its growth is about "embracing globalization" and "greater diversity."
On August 15 this year, NDB successfully issued its debut ZAR bond in the South African bond market, becoming the highest rated issuer to issue in this market since 2015.
Maasdorp said NDB will seek more green financing to help BRICS countries achieve net zero emissions targets.
