Officials from various countries lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping's speech at the BRICS summit for injecting confidence and impetus into BRICS cooperation.
On Wednesday, Xi delivered a speech titled "Seeking Development Through Solidarity and Cooperation and Shouldering Our Responsibility for Peace" at the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. Officials said the speech inspired many countries, especially those in the Global South, to come together in efforts to spur development and cooperation.
"The BRICS partnership is about development, is about cooperation, is about the sharing of resources, sharing of a common vision. But very important for me also is the statement that the Global South, in terms of South-South relationship, is as important as the West in the Global North," said Calvin Wijk, former director of Department of Tourism of Western Cape Province in South Africa.
