Hundreds of Japanese people gathered in central Tokyo to protest against the government's controversial decision to release nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean on August 24. Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said the radioactive wastewater was diluted as planned before being discharged via an underwater tunnel one kilometer from the plant.
Protesters, holding banners and placards with drawings of marine products and even the fictional monster Godzilla, chanted slogans of "No ocean discharge of Fukushima nuclear-tainted water" and "Stop polluting the sea with radioactive wastewater."
