China's two-time world champion Gong Lijiao won bronze in the women's shot put final with 19.69m in her ninth World Athletics Championships campaign on Saturday, behind Chase Ealey of the U.S. with 20.43m and Canadian Sarah Mitton with 20.08m.

"I could not find my top form during the competition. Maybe I should participate in more international competitions in the rest of the season as I was kind of missing the feeling of battling with those girls," said 34-year-old Gong, who became Olympic champion in Tokyo with a personal best of 20.58m two years ago.

Canada made a one-two finish in the decathlon as Pierce LePage led in 8,909 points followed by Olympic champion Damian Warner with 8,804 points. Marco Arop led the men's 800m final in 1:44.24.

Ethiopian runners finished first and second in the women's marathon as the title went to Amane Beriso Shankule in a season's best of 2:24:23.

Swedish pole vault star Armand Duplantis was beyond anybody's reach en route to defending his title.

Duplantis, 23, cleared the heights six times all with only one attempt, and won the gold at 6.10m. He tried to improve his own world record of 6.22m by 1cm but missed it after three jumps.

"I felt a bit of pressure as defending champion, but I'm glad to come through it. It feels pretty good to be on top again," said Duplantis.

American Noah Lyles grabbed his third gold medal in Budapest with teammates in the men's 4x100m relay final in 37.38 seconds.

He took his third world title earlier in the 200m event to become the first man to make the 100m and 200m doubles at the World Championships since Jamaican legend Usain Bolt in 2015.

The U.S. women's 4x100m relay team set a new event record in 41.03 seconds to retain their title.

Sifan Hassan from the Netherlands, reigning champion in the women's 5,000m, had to settle for a silver, finishing 0.23 seconds behind Faith Kipyegon from Kenya, who took gold in 14:53.88 and also won the 1,500m final earlier on Tuesday, in which Hassan finished third.

"Making history today, winning two gold medals in a championship is what I was dreaming for this season. I have been patient waiting to be able to break world records and win double golds. But my dream just came true, it is amazing," said Kipyegon, who set new world records in 1,500m and 5,000m earlier this year.
