Wang Yafan of China beat Marina Bassols Ribera of Spain 6-2 and 6-2 in the U.S. Open women's singles qualifying competition on Friday, becoming the seventh player from the Chinese mainland to participate in the singles events in this year's final Grand Slam tournament that will begin on September 28.

Wang Yafan will face the No. 7 seed, Caroline Garcia of France, in the first round of the U.S. Open. The two played each other twice before, and each won one match. Wang Yafan's best record at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center was reaching the second round in 2017.

The other four Chinese players competing in the women's singles event are Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xinyu, Wang Xiyu and Zhu Lin.

No. 23 seed Zheng will play Nadia Podoroska of Argentina in the first round. The two haven't faced each other before. Zheng advanced to the third round in the U.S. Open last year as her best record in this Grand Slam competition.

Wang Xiyu will meet Julia Grabher of Austria in the first-round match. The last time Wang Xiyu played her was in the Tennis in the Land in Cleveland, Ohio, this week. She lost to Grabher 6-3 and 6-4. Wang Xiyu went all the way to the third round in the U.S. Open in 2022, her best record in all Grand Slam tournaments.

Zhu will face Mayar Sherif of Egypt in the first round. This will be the first match of their career. Zhu achieved her best record at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center by reaching the second round in 2019.

Zheng Zhizhen and Wu Yibing will compete in the men's singles matches. Zhang will meet J.J. Wolf of the U.S. in the first round. The last time they played each other, Zhang beat Wolf 6-3, 3-6, and 7-6(2) in the Tallahassee Tennis Challenger in April 2022.
