China win historic gold at World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships

China's Ding Xinyi, Guo Qiqi, Hao Ting, Pu Yanzhu and Wang Lanjing, along with reserve Huang Zhangjiayang, scored 36.550 to claim the 5 Hoops title on the final day of the World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Valencia, Spain on Sunday.

This was China's first rhythmic gymnastics gold medal in World Championships history. 

Hosts Spain finished second with 36.100 points and Italy took bronze ahead of Brazil courtesy of a higher execution score with both teams scoring 35.850.

Israel took the second gold medal of the day in 3 Ribbons 2 Ball with 34.800 points.

This was the second gold of the week for the Israeli team that include Shani Banakov, Eliza Banchuk, Romi Paritzki, Ofir Shaham and Diana Svertsov and reserve Adar Friedmann, who won the all-around final on Friday, in which China finished second and earned their berth at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

The Chinese team took silver with 32.800, followed by Ukraine with 32.300, while hosts Spain narrowly missed the podium coming fourth.
