A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan will take place "soon," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Monday.

Peskov said the exact date and location will be announced later.

A Turkish official later on Monday announced that Erdogan will visit Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi soon and that there may be developments regarding the deal that allowed the maritime export of Ukrainian grain.

Speaking at a meeting, Omer Celik, spokesperson for Erdogan's ruling AK Party, did not mention when the trip would take place or specify whether Erdogan would meet with Putin there.

According to a Bloomberg news report, citing Turkish officials, Erdogan may visit Russia on September 8.

The UN- and Türkiye-brokered Black Sea grain deal ended after Moscow quit last month. Ankara has been trying to persuade Russia to return to the agreement.
