Traditional Chinese artist creates 3D effect on paper

Zhou Jingxin uses broad strokes and big ink blocks to bring a three-dimensional effect to the paper. In 1995, he debuted a series of paintings that introduced a brand new style: ink sculpting. While some have questioned the validity of his work, Zhou firmly believes that traditional Chinese painting is consistent with the concept of three-dimensionality. "There's a lot of room for innovation in traditional Chinese painting. We've always felt we've got the leeway to innovate," he said.
