In a report released Monday, a UN investigator has called for the U.S. government to apologize for the inhuman treatment of detainees at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba and to shut down the facility. Her visit is the first by an independent investigator in the two decades the facility has been operational. The international community has long denounced rights violations at Guantanamo – including forced feedings and beatings of detainees, and a lack of due process. So how are things going on now in the detention center? Will any U.S. officials be held accountable for torture, rendition and other ill-treatment? And when will the prison be closed?
