In the first summer since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, Chinese audiences are back in the theaters again. By the beginning of August, the summer box-office revenue in the Chinese mainland already hit 14 billion yuan, and is likely to reach 40 billion for the year. Is China's film market back to pre-pandemic levels? What characterizes this year's summer movie season? And what can we say about China's film industry today and where it's going in the future? To talk more about China's film market and the industry, we are joined by Prof. Teng Jimeng, a regular film critic, Prof. David Moser from Beijing Capital Normal University, and Digby Wren, media and communications specialist.
