A faculty member from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was killed in a campus shooting on Monday and a suspect is in custody, according to local media reports.

The university issued an alert to students telling them to shelter in place at about 1 p.m., and then issued an "all clear" late in the afternoon, it said on social media.
