Germany beat Finland 107-75 in their final game in Group E at the FIBA Basketball World Cup at the Okinawa Arena in Okinawa, Japan, on Tuesday, advancing to the Round of 16 as the group leader with three wins.

Germany had five players score double-digit points while delivering 29 assists with only nine turnovers. The two sides matched each other in 3-point shooting, in both production (11) and accuracy (34.4 percent). But Germany made 11 more 2-point field goals (FGs) at a better accuracy (77.8 percent-65.4 percent).

Some of those 2-point shots were made in fast breaks launched by exploiting the 18 turnovers committed by Finland, but more were open buckets set up by Germandy's mature offensive system. They always made quick and smart ball-movements, both to outside the 3-point line and toward the paint. Even if the opponents managed to resolve their regular tricks, Germany had Dennis Schroder to make the key tough shots with his excellent individual ability.

In contrast, Finland's offense was nothing but flat. Their over-reliance on 3-point shooting made them very predictable to German defenders. As a result, the team's NBA All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen couldn't receive enough support from his teammates. If he tried to post up within the 3-point line, traps would form immediately. If he passed the ball to his teammates, it was unlikely to come back to him. It's not because the rest of the team didn't want to pass to him, but because it's difficult for them to do so against the tight defense.

The gaps above were why Tuesday's game went in the way it did. Finland enjoyed a better shooting touch than Germany at the beginning and, thus, they led in the first quarter. Germany had only eight points in the first five minutes of the first quarter, but managed to score more easy points via their flexible offense, scoring 82 points in the rest three quarters of the game.

Germany will face either Slovenia or Georgia from Group F in the Round of 16 game, while Finland will head to the Classification Round to decide their final rankings in 32 teams.
