Intensified global warming has made eight percent of Chile's glaciers disappear since 2014, according to data collected in 2022 by Chile's General Water Department. The Patagonian Ice Field, the world's second largest contiguous extrapolar ice field, is melting at an increasing rate in the past decade due to the rising temperature. "This winter of 2023, in terms of temperature, will be the highest in Chile's history," Chilean Meteorological Directorate claimed.
