Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with visiting U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on Tuesday in Beijing, calling on both sides to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation.

Noting that China is the largest developing country and the United States is the largest developed country, Li said the two sides should strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, reduce friction and confrontation, and jointly promote world economic recovery and cope with global challenges.

In 2022, the bilateral trade in goods between China and the U.S. reached a record high of $690.6 billion. Among them, the U.S. imported $536.8 billion, accounting for approximately one-sixth of the total import value worldwide.

China's exports have been growing steadily over the past decade. China was the largest manufacturing economy and the largest exporter in the world in 2022, with annual merchandise exports of $3.59 trillion, accounting for 14.4 percent of the world value. U.S. merchandise exports reached $2.06 trillion in the same period.

Facilitated by the increasing availability of information and communications technologies (ICTs) worldwide, international trade in services has witnessed fast growth over the past decade. China and the U.S. are the central players in ICT exports as part of global supply chains.

In 2022, the annual exports of digitally delivered services in China and the U.S. reached $201 billion and $632 billion, respectively. The U.S. was the leading exporter of digitally delivered services last year.

Global exports of digitally delivered services reached $3.8 trillion in 2022. The U.S. was the world's top-ranked exporter of digitally delivered services, according to the WTO, but its share in global exports fell by nearly one percent compared to 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. China's share in world exports was 4.3 percent in 2019. However, it grew to 5.2 percent in 2022 to rank sixth globally.
