China says ban on Japanese seafood imports 'totally legitimate'
CGTN

China's ban on all Japanese seafood over the release of nuclear-contaminated water from the crippled Fukushima plant is "totally necessary," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Wednesday in a rebuff to a threat that Tokyo might take the case to the World Trade Organization for arbitration.

China has already articulated its position on Japan's release plan many times, Wang said, adding that the international community has generally criticized the Japanese government and taken relevant precautionary measures in response to the "extremely selfish," "irresponsible" move.

He said China's ban was an emergency action, that was "totally legitimate" and "within reason."
