Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday reaffirmed China's commitment to a stable and mutually beneficial relationship with the United Kingdom, urging dialogue and cooperation for stronger trust and more understanding between the two countries.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.
China and the UK should carry out and strengthen exchanges in all respects, Wang told Cleverly in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
Specifically, the Chinese diplomat urged strengthening the coordination of macro-policy for the two major trade and financial countries to provide impetus to the recovery of the world economy.
For his part, Cleverly spoke highly of China's efforts that have lifted tens of millions out of poverty, calling it a great achievement.
A positive UK-China relationship will benefit the peoples of the two countries and even the world at large, the British diplomat said.
He also stressed the UK's commitment to the Taiwan question by adhering to the one-China principle, adding that the country is looking forward to stepping up communication and understanding with China and embracing more opportunities in areas including technology, AI and green energy.
