Editor's Note: A landlocked mountainous country in Central Africa strives for the well-being of its population and aims at catering to everyone's basic needs by 2040. And China is playing a substantial role in achieving this noble goal. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Wang Guan sat down with Burundian president Évariste Ndayishimiye during his state visit to China. Ideally located in the African continent and endowed with a wealth of natural resources, as well enchanting landscapes and cultural wonders, Burundi is still grappling with issues related to the lack of modern infrastructure and talents. Ndayishimiye is seizing every opportunity to learn from China's experience and keeps on drawing inspiration from China's achievements. He reckons that China's assistance in agriculture has been substantial, notably with China's hybrid rice, and hails those Chinese agricultural technicians who made a huge contribution to Burundi. He fully embraces President Xi's Global Security Initiative, describing him as "a visionary and pragmatic leader who loves his people." Ndayishimiye also graces this interview with a famous Burundian song called "Gahugu kanje keza nakunze," an hymn that captures the spirit of the people of Burundi.
