Running back Jonathan Taylor was not traded by the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday because the team didn't hear a convincing offer for him, according to ESPN.

Considering that he is still on the team's physically unable to perform list, Taylor will miss at least the first four games in the 2023 NFL regular season, against the Jacksonville Jaguars at home, the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens on the road, and against the Los Angeles Rams at home.

Having failed to reach a contract extension with the Colts in May, Taylor is in the final year of his rookie deal. He requested a trade in July. Last week, the team allowed his side to engage with other teams to find a trade partner and set Tuesday as the deadline because that was also the league's deadline for teams to trim their roster from 90 to 53 players.

The Miami Dolphins were interested in trading for Taylor, but, according to ESPN, they didn't want to give up a first-round NFL Draft pick to make the deal happen.

The Colts can still trade Taylor until the NFL trade deadline on October 31. Even if they can't send him away for the assets they want by then, they can still place a franchise tag on him, either to keep him for another season, negotiate an extension or deal him somewhere else.

The franchise tag for running backs this season is $10.091 million, the second-lowest among all positions. Three running backs, Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants, Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders and Tony Pollard of the Dallas Cowboys, were tagged and none of them got an extension.

Such treatments of running backs caused a real stir in the league while many players of the position expressing their disappointment at the situation. Taylor was one of them. He reached the first highlight of his career in the 2021 season, tallying league-leading 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was selected into both the Pro Bowl and the First-team All-Pro in that season.

Having been held back by ankle injuries last season, Taylor didn't perform well, making only 11 appearances in 2022. He has played or practiced since he underwent surgery on his ankle in January.
