The San Francisco 49ers won't trade defensive end Nick Bosa despite him skipping the team's whole pre-season training camp, general manager John Lynch told reporters on Wednesday.

"No. Real simple," was the answer given by Lynch to the question "Is there any percentage chance that you guys would consider trading DE Nick Bosa?" by 49ers Webzone.

Bosa is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract with the team. He had 18.5 sacks and 51 tackles last season and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He was eligible for a contract extension in the last offseason, but agreed to wait for another year.

"I thought it would come probably at this time just looking at the history of those things," the 49ers' head coach Kyle Shanahan said when asked about Bosa's extension. "I'm really hoping it gets done. I know they're working tirelessly at it. [General Manager] John [Lynch] [VP of Football Administrations Brian] Hamp [Hampton] [President] Paraag [Marathe]. I know their team is. But hopefully we can get him in here sooner than later."

Bosa displayed his defensive power in his first NFL season after the 49ers drafted him with the second-overall pick in 2019. He posted nine sacks and 47 tackles in 16 games that season and was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Though Bosa only made two appearances in the 2020 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament tear, he came back in full strength in the following 2021 season, getting 15.5 sacks and 52 tackles in 17 games.

Judging by Bosa's incredible performance, the 49ers have no reason to let him go. The question is what deal they should offer for him to ink. Currently, the highest annual salary for a defensive end is $28 million for T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Aaron Donald of gets paid $31.7 million per year by the Los Angeles Rams, the highest for any defender.

"I'm definitely going to have patience and probably not worry about it for some time," Bosa said in January. "I have an amazing agent who will handle all of that and I'll just enjoy my time off and get ready to roll next year."
