Russia's Far East steps up radiation monitoring after Japan's radioactive water release
01:44

After Japan discharged nuclear-contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean, Russia's Far East stepped up inspection and monitoring. Svetlana Tishkova, the leading toxicologist of the laboratory of the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor), said in an interview with CGTN that radioactive elements may not be immediately found in biological cells, but it is obvious that contaminated food should not be eaten. At present, the Russian Far East region is systematically monitoring the air, water, fisheries and seabed sediment in relevant areas.
