Liverpool and Bayern Munich have reached an agreement over the transfer of Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who will go to Anfield in a 40-million-euro (about $43.4 million) deal if he passes a medical, ESPN reported on Thursday.

It has been only one season since Bayern landed Gravenberch from Ajax for 18.5 million euros (about $20.1 million) on a five-year contract. He made 34 appearances, including only 11 starts, for the German powerhouse and won the Bundesliga title with them last season.

Gravenberch will make an important addition to Liverpool's roster after the club lost a series of key players during the summer transfer window. Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left as free agents, while Jordan Henderson and Fabinho joined Al-Ettifaq and Al-Ittihad respectively of the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool have been trying to sign more players to fill in the vacancies left by the above players, but suffered a series of setbacks. They tried to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, but the player chose to join Chelsea. They wanted to acquire Romeo Lavia from Southampton, but Chelsea again beat them to land him.

So far, Liverpool have made three midfield signings: Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for 42 million euros (about $45.5 million), Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for 70 million euros (about $75.9 million) and Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart for 20 million euros (about $21.7 million). Gravenberch will be the fourth if everything goes well.

Liverpool beat Newcastle United 2-1 at home on August 27 to secure their second win in the Premier League this season. The summer transfer window closes on Thursday, leaving "The Reds" hours to do more business. Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad have been desperately going after Mohamed Salah for up to 150 million pounds (about $189.9 million) including add-ons, according to Sky Sports.
