The Chinese mainland resolutely opposes the supply of arms to Taiwan by the U.S. and urges the U.S. to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiques of China and the U.S. and to immediately stop supplying arms to Taiwan, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Chen Binhua said on Friday.

He made the remarks in response to the U.S. State Department's recent approval of an $80-million military aid package to the Taiwan region.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities stubbornly adhere to the separatist position of "Taiwan independence" and continue to spend the hard-earned money of the Taiwan compatriots to purchase weapons from the U.S., attempting to pursue "independence" by force, he noted.

Such acts will only make Taiwan compatriots more worried, Chen said.

"No matter how many weapons the DPP authorities buy from the U.S., they will not be able to shake our firm will to resolve the Taiwan question and complete national reunification, and they will not be able to resist our strong ability to crush the separatist schemes seeking 'Taiwan independence' and safeguard national sovereignty," he said.
